Charles Oliveira might face Conor McGregor next, if the Irishman manages to beat Dustin Poirier at UFC 264
Charles Oliveira became the 11th UFC lightweight champion when he beat Michael Chandler at the recently concluded UFC 262. The Brazilian got what he deserved after being almost 11 years with the promotion.
He is expected to defend his title against the winner of the upcoming trilogy bout between Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier at UFC 264.
Elsewhere, UFC lightweight Kevin Lee explained why he felt that it would be difficult for McGregor or Poirier to beat Charles Oliveira.
In an interview with Helen Yee, Lee said
“Yeah, for the foreseeable future [he would hold his title]. At lightweight I don’t see anybody else beating him right now.”
When asked if he saw McGregor or Poirier defeating him, Lee said:
“Either one of them, do not have the complete game to beat somebody like Charles. With Charles you gotta be on your p’s and q’s the whole time. You gotta have the skills behind it. I think Dustin’s had a lot of fights…But I think he’s starting to hit a plateau period…There are no new wrinkles added to his game. You gotta hit Charles [Oliveira] with something new.”
It is worth noting that, Lee’s last fight was against Oliveira, back in March 2020. Lee lost the match via. submission.
Kevin Lee weighs in on Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier trilogy fight
With the trilogy fight between McGregor and Poirier coming up on the 10th of July, a lot of notable people have been giving their predictions.
Kevin Lee also gave his prediction for the bout in the same interview with Helen Yee. Lee claimed that McGregor would win it this time around.
Lee told Helen Yee:
“I don’t know, I see Conor, [McGregor] maybe, maybe winning this one. I think he’ll make the adjustments and win it.”
The event is set to headline UFC 264 in front of a full house in Vegas.
