Conor McGregor suffered a devastating loss to Dustin Poirier at UFC 257 but Kevin Lee finds the positives
Dustin Poirier beat Conor McGregor via a round 2 TKO in their UFC 257 main event last month. That was a massive result for him which shocked a lot of people.
Among them was UFC lightweight fighter, Kevin Lee. ‘The Motown Phenom’ was speaking to MMA Junkie on YouTube and revealed that while the result was shocking, it still raised the Irishman’s stocks.
Lee even highlighted that not only the fans, but he himself was stoked to see ‘The Notorious One’ lose because that means he can fight him soon.
“If anything, his [McGregor] stock kind of went up still. I know a lot of people are looking at it like ‘oh, he’s a striker and he got knocked out so he’s going to be on the down for a long time’, I think his stock kind of went up by losing, I think, people want to see him lose.
“So, they’re going to want to see him lose again. Then they get a taste of that, they’re going to want it again. For me personally, him losing was great because now I can fight him sooner.”
Why not? Everyone seems to be up for it. To the UFC fans, it might not make sense. ‘The Diamond’ is in line for a shot at gold.
They don’t want him to blow it away by completing a trilogy of fights with McGregor. But it will undoubtedly be a money fight. And another Poirier win would give a lot of clarity to the division.
The Irishman wanted the fight ever since he got knocked out by Poirier. Dana White seems to be up for it, and even Tyron Woodley has pitched his thoughts on the fight, saying that it should be for the belt.
Moreover, with people like Nate Diaz and Charles Oliveira calling him out, Dustin Poirier has himself mentioned how he wants the third fight to happen.
