Abubakar, the cousin of Khabib Nurmagomedov, fights at UFC 260 and the Eagle is coaching his relative
Khabib Nurmagomedov might have retired from the MMA fight game but he has taken up the role of a coach.
The Eagle retired with a 29-0 record but was coaching his friend Islam Makhachev at UFC 259. Khabib helped Makhachev to an impressive win over Drew Dober, and The Eagle isn’t done yet.
He recently shared several pictures of a training session with Abubakar Nurmagomedov. Abubakar fights in the Welterweight division of the UFC and is one of the cousins of Khabib.
The former UFC Lightweight Champion has other cousins in the fight business too and he had some words of encouragement for Abubakar:
“You did a very good training camp Brother @abubakar_nurmagomedov
“We hope only for victory, only forward, and we will be there #winnerOnly from the Almighty”
Khabib could be seen putting on some gloves in the images and he also sparred a bit with his cousin.
The 31-year-old Abubakar is a Combat Sambo Bronze medallist and a Russian national champion in the discipline too.
He came into the UFC with a 15-2-1 record and there were some great things expected from him. However, Khabib’s cousin lost his UFC debut fight to David Zawada via a triangle choke.
This time, he takes on Jared Gooden at UFC 260 and it will be interesting to see if Khabib is in Abubakar’s corner.
The Eagle was present in the previous UFC event and sat alongside Dana White. There were some fun moments during the show too as Khabib livestreamed a few parts of the fights, something that White looks down upon.
Kevin Holland, who was in the main event fighting against Derek Brunson, also hilariously asked Khabib for some wrestling tips in between rounds.
Khabib enjoyed that but he couldn’t help Holland from suffering a loss. Hopefully, things go better for Abubakar and he gets his first UFC win.
