Khabib Nurmagomedov might have retired from MMA fighting but he was doing everything possible to help Abubakar, his cousin
UFC 260 saw another Nurmagomedov shine as Abubakar defeated Jared Gooden, thanks to some help from Khabib, his cousin.
Khabib Nurmagomedov officially retired from the UFC recently, however, he is doing all he can to help his relatives.
The Eagle ended his career with a 29-0 record and was also the Lightweight champion. He gave the belt away but has started his full-time coaching career extremely well.
Khabib helped Islam Makhachev to a dominant UFC win against Drew Dober. He then helped his cousin, Abubakar, get his first UFC win too in a great display.
However, Khabib wasn’t just training his relatives and friends. The Eagle was speaking at the UFC 260 weigh-in show and was asked about what keeps motivating him now.
Khabib claimed that he was busy cutting weight for his brother, and he had some other big plans too:
“Honestly, all night, I didn’t sleep because I was making weight with my brother, my cousin is fighting this weekend.
“To going to cage? Nothing to motivate me but I have so many close people who help me become champion and big star. Now they keep competition that’s why I am here to help those guys and stay around them and give them good energy, control their training camp and this is big motivation for me now.”
This isn’t the first time such a story has come out. Reports have suggested that when one of Khabib’s teammates cut weight, they all do.
Many have been impressed by what Khabib has been doing now. The Eagle claimed he wanted to help those who were close to him and he has done a great job at that.
Islam and Abubakar picked up some great wins and another of his relatives, Usman, will also be preparing for a big event.
Khabib would have helped him out too. The Eagle might not feature on Bellator but there is no doubt Usman will look to impress after Khabib’s tutelage.
