Khabib Nurmagomedov says that he is having a better time being retired than inside the octagon
Not often do you hear a UFC belt-holder openly reveal how much he wants to stay away from the sport. But Khabib Nurmagomedov has been doing exactly that.
The UFC lightweight champion uploaded a picture on his Instagram from possibly San Francisco, California, and explained how training for fights felt like a ‘prison’.
He is seen in an all-black outfit with a black mask to go with it. And he mentioned his desire to just travel the city without having to worry about a fight.
[Google translate- Russian to English]
“Since 2012, I just dreamed of getting to this city (SF) without preparing for my fight and without any diet, just take a walk and enjoy a good meal)))
The answer is that I seemed to be in prison 🤦♂️
Alhamdulillah how good it is not to be an active athlete”.
Is Khabib Nurmagomedov going to stay retired?
He just gave a clear indication that he prefers being retired. Khabib went 29-0-0 in his professional MMA career and the 32-year-old called it a day after UFC 254 with a win over Justin Gaethje.
And since then, he has opted to stay active in training. He is spotted with stars such as Kamaru Usman and Belal Muhammad, giving them advice and training with them.
He has also found time to make his debut as a ‘coach/cornerman’ when Islam Makhachev took on Drew Dober at UFC 259.
While Dana White seems to be doing everything he can to get him, Khabib seems content with retirement and a role on the sidelines.
And no matter how much we would enjoy having him back in the ring, we should respect his decision.
