Coach Khabib Nurmagomedov has a plan laid out for Islam Makhachev for the rest of 2021

Islam Makhachev saw off Thiago Moises in his first-ever main event at UFC Vegas 31.

However, he had to sweat it out before he could apply the finish on the resilient Brazilian. Makhachev executed a perfect rear-naked choke in the fourth round to bring up his eighth consecutive victory.

The number 9 ranked lightweight is expected to move even higher in the rankings, as his immaculate surge to the top continues.

Khabib Nurmagomedov was the coach for Islam Makhachev at UFC Vegas 31 (UFC)

Following his victory, his coach and fellow Dagestani, Khabib Nurmagomedov told Brett Okamoto of ESPN about the plan for Makhachev (for the rest of 2021).

Khabib also revealed that they were planning to aim for the Fighter of the Year award.

Okamoto’s tweet read:

“Khabib Nurmagomedov tells me the plan is for Islam Makhachev to get one more fight near the end of the year, get a finish, and be named Fighter of the Year. He’s 2-0 with two finishes so far. He’d have to beat out some tough competition. Usman, Moreno, Ngannou are tops, I’d say.”
