Khabib Nurmagomedov has some coaching tips for upcoming UFC star Islam Makhachev
You can tell Khabib Nurmagomedov misses the sport a lot despite making his MMA retirement official in March.
He has taken up coaching, being corner man, and training his teammates since that time. And he seems to be enjoying that.
Just a few weeks back, he made his debut as a cornerman at UFC 259 when Islam Makhachev beat Drew Dober. He was so into that role that even Javier Mendez was surprised by it.
Makhachev is one of the upcoming talents in lightweight, a division where ‘The Eagle’ fought in and dominated for a number of years.
And he seems to have taken him under his wing, carefully monitoring and scrutinizing every move. Makhachev posted a photo of himself resting on a sofa recently on his Instagram.

He captioned it in Russian which roughly translates to, “I worked, I rest”. Khabib, albeit in good humour, wanted Makhachev to work more before he could post that.
Khabib commented, “It’s too early to talk about it”. It’s too early indeed despite him having fought in the UFC for close to 6 years.
Makhachev has an 8-1 UFC record as of now but is only just making his way up the division. His next fight could be the first blockbuster fight of his life.
There s no opponent confirmed for that yet, but the Russian did call out Tony Ferguson and said that he wanted to retire ‘El Cucuy’.
Mendez also acknowledged Tony as a possible opponent for Islam. But one name that has been mentioned quite heavily recently is that of Rafael dos Anjos.
Either of those fights would be great for Islam as it would give him a big chance to rise up the rankings.
