HomeUFCKhamzat Chimaev says he is coming for the welterweight title

Swedish mixed martials arts sensation Khamzat Chimaev is set to return to the UFC

Khamzat Chimaev was on an absolute tear in the UFC, before COVID struck him. The ‘Borz‘ had joined the promotion only in July 2020. And within 2 months, he was already 3-0 up in the promotion.

He was then booked to face top-ranked welterweight Leon Edwards in December 2020, and that was when Edwards first tested positive for COVID-19.

The fight was rescheduled to early 2021, and had to be postponed once again since Chimaev tested positive for the virus.

Chimaev was severely affected the disease and it took him more than 3 months to completely heal from the lingering effects of the raging virus. There was a point where he announced his retirement from the sport, unable to bear the lingering effects of the coronavirus.

But, Chimaev is fully fit now and is raring to get back to the Octagon. In a recent interview with the Schmo he fired a warning to the welterweight division that he was coming for the title soon.

“We’ll focus on 170, and take this belt. We’ll see what is gonna happen.”

Given his 6ft 2 inch height, he can challenge and pose a threat across several weight divisions. His walk-around weight will surely lie somewhere well above the light-heavyweight limit.

What remains to be seen is the ‘legitness’ of his hype-train. He surely is a massive talent, but still hasn’t proven himself against the best in the promotion.
