Khamzat Chimaev mocks Nicholas Maximov’s submission loss at UFC Vegas 54, after claiming that he’d beat Chimaev easily
Nicholas Maximov, Nate Diaz’s teammate from the Nick Diaz Academy was famously seen in TMZ interview, where it appeared like the young fighter was caught like a deer in the headlights when Nate suggested his name to fight Khamzat Chimaev. Ahead of UFC Vegas 54 at the pre-fight media scrum, Maximov stated that he was caught under the wrong impression and that he’s capable of beating the Chechen.
Maximov faced the up and comer Andre Petroski, but lost the fight with an anaconda choke that wrecked his unbeaten record. Nate Diaz and Khamzat Chimaev have been at loggerheads for quite some time now, as the UFC is working relentlessly towards setting up a fight between the two.
On a recent episode of the Pivot podcast, Dana White serendipitously gave fans a bit better look at just what the UFC has in mind. Notably, a series of mock-up fight cards at UFC offices—which include a planned middleweight title fight between champ Israel Adesanya and top contender Jared Cannonier, along with the return of Khamzat Chimaev against none other than Nate Diaz.
He reacted to a video that the UFC posted on Instagram by tagging Nate Diaz’s account with a couple of laughing emojis, mocking his teammate’s loss.
Daniel Cormier has adopted the role of broadcaster and promoter after retiring from the sport, and does his best to pump up fight cards, and give back to the game. During a recent episode of his podcast on his Youtube channel, Cormier discussed the idea of a potential fight between Michael Chandler and Nate Diaz, and how intrigued he is my it.
He even suggested that while Diaz might have a difficult time with any other matchup, he might actually benefit from a fight against Chandler, and wants the UFC to setup the fight as soon as possible. He said,
‘I know my boy
@MikeChandlerMMA
gon be mad at me but I believe
@NateDiaz209
has got the right matchup. Make it happen
@ufc
my thoughts on the fight and the rationale behind the call out will be live on my YouTube at 12 est/9pst https://youtu.be/ikKDxWZJZD4′
