Khamzat Chimaev has turned down the possibility of a future fight between him and Darren Till, even if they ever cross paths on their way to UFC gold
Loyalty runs deep for the Chechen born Swedish mixed martial artist Khamzat Chimaev. Darren Till and Khamzat Chimaev have kindred MMA’s most unlikely relationship, and their ‘bromance’ is being admired by everyone, including the boss-man Dana White.
The ‘smesh’ bros made an appearance on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, where Chimaev spoke about the current landscape of welterweight division, his desire to train with Jon Jones one day, and his upcoming fight with Gilbert Burns at UFC 273.
When asked about the possibility of the two fighters crossing paths and eventually ending up facing each other, Chimaev said, ” No. Not me. I know this guy wanna fight me, but not me. I can’t fight with my brothers. The guy [Darren Till] don’t care. He fight for money.”
Sitting besides Chimaev, Till responded by saying, ” You know what I’m like with my teammates, Tom Aspinall and Team Kaobon back home. It’s the same with Khamzat now”
This flourishing brotherhood is one of the most trending topics in MMA today, and will be fascinating to see whether Till accompanies Chimaev as a corner-man at UFC 273.
‘He has zero wrestling’ – Chimaev previews Israel Adesanya match-up to be easier than a fight with Kamaru Usman
Khamzat Chimaev is known for his dominant display inside the octagon and personality high on self-esteem. Chimaev has won all four of his fights inside the UFC octagon by finishes and has competed in the welterweight and middleweight divisions. The nature of his supremacy is reflected in a never seen before stat which shows that he’s only been at the receiving end of a cumulative three strikes in his four matches.
He made an appearance alongside his new ‘best-friend’ Darren Till on the recent episode of The MMA Hour. Speaking about potential fights in the future, Chimaev said that he believes Kamaru Usman would be tougher competition for him than jumping up in weight class and competing with middleweight king Israel Adesanya.
“‘Izzy,’ I think it will be more easy for me to smash that guy,” Chimaev told MMA Fighting. “He has zero wrestling. The guy he fought last time [Robert Whittaker], he’s not a wrestler — he took his back. If I take his back, brother, I’ll squeeze his head off. I’ll take his head off. Easy money for me.”
