Luke Rockhold and Khamzat Chimaev have been out of action for quite a while
Khamzat Chimaev is looking forward to getting back to the Octagon this year. The Swede who made a flying start to his UFC career was pegged by the devastating long-term effects of the coronavirus.
He was already 3-0 up and set to face Leon Edwards by the time coronavirus got the better of him. The disease almost pushed him to the brink of retirement. However, he has recovered fully now and itching to get back to the Octagon.
Elsewhere, former UFC middleweight champion Luke Rockhold is hatching plans for a comeback too. The American last fought two years ago in July 2019.
The latest development is that Chimaev turned down a main event fight with the returning Rockhold on the 28th of August. The news was reported by Ariel Helwani.
On learning about the same, Rockhold had quipped, “All respect but I thought he would fight anyone.”
Rockhold is expected to fight by the end of this year’s summer. And since, Chimaev wants a fight at 170lbs, there is no chance of a Rockhold-Chimaev clash.
Who will Khamzat Chimaev fight next?
Chimaev recently revealed that he would like to stay in the welterweight division, and make his way towards the title.
He recently told the Schmo:
“We’ll focus on 170, and take this belt. We’ll see what is gonna happen.”
He has been involved in a social media feud with Neil Magny, ever since he made his debut in the promotion. The pair went back and forth on social media, even recently.
Magny is ranked number 8 in the welterweight rankings, and a fight between the two could very well be on the cards.
