Swedish star Khamzat Chimaev has been impressive in the UFC and has set his sights on a legend for his next fight
Khamzat Chimaev is the next big thing in the UFC and already has plans for another fight. The 26-year-old has won his first two clashes in the promotion in two different weight classes.
While that isn’t an extraordinary feat, what was special is that the fights came with only 10 days in between them.
Chimaev easily defeated Rhys McKee in his second fight and didn’t even pick up major damage. The 26-year-old also joked that he was ready for another clash an hour later and wants to fight again.
He is 8-0 in his MMA career and the UFC seems to have found their next bankable star. While many have called out Chimaev for a fight, the Swede has his eyes set on Demian Maia.
Chimaev tweeted that Maia was next, even though he was a legend:
“@demianmaia you a legend I respect you but sorry you’re next… let’s see who have better grappling…”
Chimaev certainly has had one of the most talked-about debuts in UFC history and it will be interesting to see if this fight is set up.
There are rumours that he might be in action again at UFC 252 with the main event being the Heavyweight title clash between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic.
That is set for August 15 and the final fight card hasn’t been finalised yet. Maia, for his part, is a UFC legend and has fought across two divisions too.
He is currently fighting in the Welterweight division and has a record of 28 wins and 10 losses. He was on a three-fight winning streak before losing to Gilbert Burns in March.
Maia would be a real test for Chimaev and it is an interesting bout, to say the least. The Swede is trying to move up the rankings fast and beating Maia might prove that he is the real deal.
