The latest UFC rankings saw some significant change at the top of the middleweight division
UFC Vegas 41 concluded a couple of days ago. The event was headlined by a fiery middleweight clash between two top-ranked MWs, Paulo Costa and Marvin Vettori.
The fight was explosive as expected, with Costa and Vettori going back and forth for the entire five rounds.
Although Costa did more damage, Vettori outstruck the Brazilian with his quick strikes to the head all through the fight.
In the end, Vettori won the fight via. unanimous decision, scoring 48-46 on all three judges’ scorecards.
Following the win, the latest UFC rankings saw Vettori jump three places. He was number 5 coming into the fight, and the win has seen him move to number 2, only behind champion Israel Adesanya and Robert Whittaker.
Costa, on the other hand, dropped to number 5. He was number 2 prior to the fight. To sum it up, Costa and Vettori swapped places.
Jon Jones drops to number 4 in latest pound-for-pound rankings
Only a month ago, Jon Jones was sitting atop the men’s pound-for-pound rankings. Now, he finds himself at number 4. The reason? His high-profile arrest in Las Vegas last month.
The former light-heavyweight champion was arrested for physically assaulting his fiance Jessie Moses.
A couple of days after his arrest, Jones lost his number 1 spot to Kamaru Usman, and more recently has slipped further down to number 4.
Currently, UFC featherweight champ Alexander Volkanovski and middleweight champ Israel Adesanya are number 2 and 3 respectively.
