Lauren Murphy refutes Jessica Eye’s claims on doctors not checking up after weight cuts

Jessica Eye asks why no one checked on her when she missed weight as she prepares for UFC 257

UFC fighter Jessica Eye is scheduled to take on Joanne Calderwood at UFC 257. She fights on the main card in the PPV takes place on Sunday, 24th January at Etihad Stadium.

This is also the first time she is fighting since having a gallbladder surgery last year. The problem was first feared by many to be either cancer or Crohn’s disease, but it turned out that it was a problem with her gallbladder.

That was the reason behind the weight cuts in her 2 previous fights. Keeping that in mind, Eye stated in a press conference that it was concerning how no one checked on her after her weight cuts.

“Nobody asked me if I was okay when I first missed weight.”

She stated that it was astonishing that people saw her missing weight for the first time in her career and did not bother to check up on her.

Replying to a video of that interview, UFC flyweight fighter Lauren Murphy stated that Eye was just cooking this whole thing up.

Murphy writes that there are doctors that UFC fighters consult before every weigh-in, whose job entails asking the fighters if they are feeling alright.

Eye (15-8-0) now has the task of facing Calderwood (14-5-0) this weekend. Eye lost to Cynthia Calvillo at UFC Vegas 2 last year, a fight where she missed the weight.

She would be hoping that she avoids back-to-back losses for the first time since September 2016. Calderwood is also on the back of a loss last year, when she lost to Jennifer Maia at UFC Vegas 5,
