Khabib Nurmagomedov is to face Justin Gaethje next as he defends the UFC Lightweight title
UFC star Lauren Murphy has had her say regarding who should be Khabib Nurmagomedov’s 30th fight.
The Russian is currently the UFC Lightweight champion and is undefeated in his career. Khabib has a 28-0 record in MMA and last defeated Dustin Poirier to unite and win the UFC Lightweight title.
However, Khabib was to face Tony Ferguson at UFC 249 but the coronavirus shelved those plans. This was to be for the Lightweight title but the UFC switched things around.
Ferguson was still on the card with Khabib stuck in Russia. To ensure the event went ahead, Ferguson took on Justin Gaethje for the interim Lightweight title.
It was Gaethje who did an amazing job to beat Ferguson and he is to face Khabib next. However, the curse of Khabib vs Ferguson continued.
The pair had been scheduled to meet four other times in the past but for some reason or another, the clash didn’t take place.
Murphy, however, believes Khabib should get that fight against Ferguson and tweeted that this should be the Russian’s 30th fight:
“Khabibs 30th fight should be Tony Ferguson”
While Khabib vs Gaethje is a certainty later in the year, the Russian has shared who he wants for his 30th fight.
There were some comments shared on social media recently where Khabib wanted to fight UFC legend Georges St-Pierre in 2021.
GSP is one of the greatest to have ever graced the UFC but retired from the sport a few years back. Khabib and Ali Abdelaziz, Khabib’s agent, have spoken in the past of regarding a huge clash against GSP.
It will be interesting to see who Khabib picks for his 30th fight. That would be a grand event, but he has a tough opponent in Gaethje next.
The American looked extremely impressive against Ferguson as he won his first UFC title. And, he has his eyes set on becoming the next undisputed Lightweight champion.
