Cynthia Calvillo pulled out of UFC 254 but Lauren Murphy is still ready to fight

Lauren Murphy vs Cynthia Calvillo was one of the big fights at UFC 254. The two women would have been thinking of a Flyweight title shot in the future, but that clash if off the card now.

Brett Okamoto tweeted that Calvillo had been pulled from the event. No reason was given as to why she pulled out and that would be disappointing for Calvillo.

However, Murphy provided an update regarding her time on Fight Island and the fight too. The 37-year-old confirmed that she was looking for a replacement.

She also wished that Calvillo was fine and added that she was keen on a match in the future:

Hope @cyn_calvillo is okay! Maybe (hopefully) we can run it in a few weeks! In the meantime, I’m still planning on having the fight of my life on Fight Island! See you guys soon”

Looking for another big win

Murphy has been in decent form since losing to Sijara Eubanks more than two years ago. She is 3-0 since that clash and last defeated Roxanne Modafferi at UFC: Blaydes vs Volkov.

She has also defeated Andrea Lee and Mara Romero Borella since that loss, and it will be interesting to see who the UFC might find for her.

Lauren Murphy was impressed by Holly Holm recently

Valentina Shevchenko is the current UFC Flyweight Champion and the Bullet is one of the best around. Getting the better of Shevchenko won’t be easy and the Bullet is to face Jennifer Maia at UFC 255.

Shevchenko has an MMA record of 19 wins and three losses with both her UFC losses coming up against Amanda Nunes.

The Flyweight division does have some quality in it, and it will be interesting to see if Shevchenko can keep her title against Maia.
