Claressa Shields is latest in the growing list of fighters training at Fight Ready alongside Henry Cejudo
Since losing her first MMA bout back in October 2021, arguably one of the greatest women’s boxers of all time, Claressa Shields declared that she wanted to take some time off to refine and hone some of her skills. And her endeavors have taken her to fellow Olympian, and former UFC double champion Henry Cejudo. In doing so, she joined an elite group of fighters who joined Arizona based to make massive improvements in their all-round game.
Shields has held multiple world boxing championships in three weight classes, including the undisputed female light middleweight title since March 2021; the undisputed female middleweight title from 2019 to 2020; and the unified WBC and IBF female super middleweight titles from 2017 to 2018. Shields currently holds the record for becoming a two and three-weight world champion in the fewest professional fights.
Shields made her MMA debut at PFL 4 on June 10, 2021, against Brittney Elkin under the PFL banner. She won the fight via technical knockout in round three. She would face Abigail Montes in her second fight, and lost the fight via split decision.
In a photo and video shared by both Henry Cejudo and Claressa, the pair can be seen drilling some foot techniques, and upper body work. Shields posted the image on Twitter with the caption, ‘Great 2 hours with Triple C @HenryCejudo ! Learned a lot! Just 2 olympic champs working! #GWOAT #tripleC #henrycejudo #mma’
Henry Cejudo trains with Mike Tyson ahead of octagon return
Ahead of UFC 273, The Korean Zombie spent most of his camp with Henry Cejudo in preparation for Volkanovski. Although Zombie showed immense heart and courage, he wasn’t given any bandwidth to showcase his improvements by the Aussie. The Aussie’s performance triggered the competitor inside Cejudo.
Although the UFC has made it clear that they are not interested in giving Cejudo an immediate shot at the 145 lbs. gold, it is likely that Cejudo will return to face the bantamweight champion, Aljamain Sterling. Regardless, Cejudo has resumed training in full swing and looks forward to returning to action by the year-end.
Cejudo was seen alongside heavyweight boxing legend ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson on his show the Hotboxing podcast on several occasions. The pair even share a boxing trainer together in the name of Rafael Cordeiro. Cordiero has been training Mike recently, even when he fought fellow boxing legend, Roy Jones.
Cejudo posted a video of him hitting the mitts with Cordeiro, while Mike Tyson watches with an observant and scrutinizing eye. He posted a video on Twitter with the caption,
“Dissecting the craft of inside body work with Uncle Mike. Someone’s in big trouble upon my return.
“Go get your peekaboo instructional boxing videos from the legend himself @miketyson ’
