Serena Williams recently announced in a Vogue cover story that she is planning to hang up her boots in the near future – many believe that the 2022 US Open could be her last dance.

Fans are emotionally invested in all of her matches since she made her intentions regarding retirement clear. They feel that each match that the legendary player plays could be her last.

Many felt the same when Serena Williams laced her boots and entered the historic Arthur Ashe Stadium to play her first-round match of the US Open 2022 against Danka Kovinic. However, the 23-time Grand Slam champion won her match with relative ease.

The 40-year-old received praise from various quarters. Basketball legend LeBron James tweeted his support for fellow American Williams as he wrote:

Both athletes are considered by many as GOATs in their respective sports. They have entertained fans for decades and are continuing to do so in the twilight of their careers.
