Jorge Masvidal had taken a subtle dig at Leon Edwards following the latter’s performance at UFC 263
Leon Edwards showed the world why he deserved a title fight at the recently concluded UFC 263.
But, things might have been different if his opponent Nate Diaz had an extra minute in the final round.
Entering the last minute of the fight, a dominant Edwards was suddenly rocked hard by the battered Diaz. ‘The Brit’ became wobbly, but somehow held on, until the final bell.
Elsewhere, fellow welterweight Jorge Masvidal gave his thoughts on Edwards‘ performance at UFC 263. ‘Gamebred‘ claimed that Edwards was neither finisher nor a fighter.
He told THEMACLIFE:
“It was a good fight, good performance, I thought. Leon does what he does and he keeps asking for more money and more things, but he’s not a finisher. He’s not a fighter.”
Masvidal then explained why Edwards still hasn’t got an opportunity for a title shot:
“He was winning happily and he wasn’t willing to put himself at risk to go out there and get those finishes. That’s why I don’t think he’s in the position that he wants to be in, because he’s not going out and fighting every second of every minute.”
Edwards wasn’t particularly impressed with Masvidal’s comments. He took to Twitter to mock ‘Gamebred’ over his recent loss to Kamaru Usman at UFC 261.
Edwards wrote:
“That boy awake? The last time he said that he got put to sleep.”
Masvidal was knocked out cold by Usman in their welterweight title match that headlined UFC 261 in April. It was Masvidal’s first ever knockout loss in his career.
Known for his tough and durable chin, the MMA community were surprised to see Masvidal go out like that.
A lot of MMA experts believe Edwards should face Masvidal next.
