Following his successful title defense of the BAMMA Welterweight championship, Leon Edwards moved to the UFC

Leon Edwards is just a few days away from his fight against Nate Diaz at UFC 263. The fight which marks the return of the ‘Stockton Slugger’ will be the first non-title fight that is for 5 rounds, in the history of the UFC.

March 16, 2019 – London, United Kingdom – Leon Edwards beats Gunnar Nelson by decision during UFC Fight Night 147 at the London O2 Arena, Greenwich on Saturday 16th March 2019. Edwards is coming off a no-contest against Belal Muhammad in March, earlier this year. Diaz, on the other hand, will be returning after almost a 2-year hiatus. His last fight was against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244 in November 2019.

The winner of the fight will most probably get to fight Kamaru Usman for the welterweight title.

It has been a long time coming for Edwards who joined the promotion way back in 2014. Hence, it begs the question – Is Leon Edwards one of the most underrated welterweight fighters in the UFC?

Leon Edwards has a stunning track record in the UFC

Since making his debut in the UFC, which he did in November 2014, Edwards has lost just 2 fights. Both the losses have been via. decision (one split and the other unanimous decision).

His first loss came in his very first UFC fight, against Claudio Silva, via. a split decision. Just a year later he suffered his second loss after managing to win 2 fights in a row. This time his loss was against then-newcomer Kamaru Usman.

Since that night, Edwards hasn’t lost a single fight in the promotion. He has silently worked his way up in the welterweight division, although a bit slowly.

The Brit who has often been overlooked is currently riding an eight-match win streak, and has looked absolutely unstoppable. He holds impressive wins over Gunnar Nelson, Donald Cerrone and Rafael dos Anjos. Clearly under-appreciated!

He is now much closer than ever, to greatness, and hence will be looking forward to grabbing the opportunity with both hands, come this weekend.
