Leon Edwards sent shockwaves through the MMA world in August 2022 when he dethroned Kamaru Usman in less than a minute. He then solidified his dominance with a decisive majority decision victory in the immediate rematch on March 18, 2023. Now, the stage is set for an epic battle against Colby Covington.

The news broke shortly after Edwards’ triumphant victory at UFC 286 when Dana White confirmed Covington as the next challenger. Despite ‘Chaos’ not having fought since March 2022, where he conquered Jorge Masvidal, his role as the backup for Edwards vs. Usman 3 earned him a well-deserved title shot.

The entire welterweight division is on the edge of their seats, eagerly awaiting the showdown between Edwards and Covington. Fortunately, fight enthusiasts won’t have to wait long, as this thrilling stylistic matchup is anticipated to take place within the next three months.

In an exclusive interview with Submission Radio, Tim Simpson, the manager of Edwards and several other UFC champions, provided a tantalizing update on ‘Rocky’ vs. ‘Chaos’: “It’ll be before the end of the year. I guess the two cards left are November and December, and they’re still finalizing those. Leon’s good, he’s ready to go, waiting for the call. From my understanding, Colby’s ready to go as well. So, it’ll be one of those two.”

Leon Edwards vs. Colby Covington Bout Possibly Rescheduled for UFC 296

The UFC welterweight champion, Leon Edwards, is primed to make his return to the octagon at UFC 295, set to take place at Madison Square Garden, as confirmed by UFC President Dana White. While the initial plan was for Edwards to face Colby Covington at UFC 295, there’s now a possibility that this highly-anticipated matchup could be moved to UFC 296.

The UFC is gearing up for its historic return to Madison Square Garden after three decades, with the last event there dating back to 1993. While the full fight card remains undisclosed, early reports hinted at Edwards facing Covington alongside the confirmed main event featuring Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic.

However, Edwards’ manager, Tim Simpson, has revealed that the showdown between Edwards and Covington is on the brink of being finalized. According to Simpson, the two fighters are preparing for a clash scheduled for either November or December. This development suggests that the fight initially linked to UFC 295 might find its new home at UFC 296. Stay tuned for updates on this thrilling welterweight showdown!
