Leon Edwards and Nate Diaz clash at UFC 263, which is just a few days from now
Edwards welcomes the returning Nate Diaz at UFC 263. Their fight will be the first-ever 5-round non-title fight in the history of the UFC.
This will be Diaz’s first fight in the UFC since his fight against Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244. He lost the match via. TKO, due to doctor stoppage.
As for Edwards, he is coming off a no-contest against Belal Muhammad, earlier this March at UFC Fight Night: Edwards vs Muhammad. The number 3 ranked welterweight also hadn’t fought since 2019, prior to that.
However, ‘Rocky’ is unbeaten in his last 8 fights, with his last loss coming against the welterweight champ Kamaru Usman.
With the fight inching closer, Edwards caught up with Farah Hannoun of MMA Junkie, and claimed that ‘Diaz hardly getting finished’ doesn’t bother him.
Diaz has been stopped once before (against Josh Thomson) and Edwards believed he could do the same.
“I need to go out there and I need to put him away. Like you said, he’s only been stopped once, and that’s all I need. He’s been stopped. He’s not no robot. He’s not no invincible man. He has been stopped…And I truly believe I will go out there and stop him again, and I cannot wait. My skill set will be too much for him in the standup. On the ground, my strength will be too much for him. And I cannot wait to go out there and let him feel that.”
Leon Edwards was then asked for the prediction of the fight. Without any second thought, Edwards claimed that he would batter and ragdoll Nate Diaz.
He didn’t seem to be bothered one bit about how tough it was to finish the ‘Stockton Slugger’.
Edwards said:
“I envision going out there and just battering him from pillar to post and to getting the stoppage. I know he’s a tough, durable guy, and I just don’t think being tough and durable is enough to beat me. I’ve worked hard, and I’ve dedicated myself for a long time, and it’s now time for my results to show. I can’t wait to go out there and prove that.”
Edwards is a clear favourite going into this fight, given his unbeaten streak. Diaz will be taking up the usual position of being the ‘dangerous’ underdog.
