“Sick turn of events”, “Main event” – Chaos ensues as Leon Edwards is removed from UFC rankings but accepts Khamzat Chimaev fight

The UFC took strict action against Leon Edwards by removing him from the UFC rankings but he later accepted a fight from Khamzat Chimaev

UFC Welterweight star Leon Edwards felt the wrath of the promotion as he was removed from the rankings due to inactivity.

The British star hadn’t fought in 425 days but he had also rejected several fights that the UFC set up.

Edwards was to fight Tyron Woodley with a possible shot at Kamaru Usman for the title next. However, the pandemic affected this as he was stuck in the UK. Gilbert Burns stepped up and the rest is history but Edwards has gotten the short end of the stick too.

Rocky, as Edwards is called, is on an eight-fight winning streak and wants to take on the top stars. However, the UFC have already made plans for Jorge Masvidal, Usman and Burns in recent months.

Edwards, however, wasn’t all that pleased with this decision and decided to call out someone he wasn’t paying attention to.

Khamzat Chimaev is the rising star in the UFC and the Swede accepted the call out from Rocky.

Fans predict a smash incoming

Khamzat and Edwards both have been searching for their next fight and it would be something to see them together in the Octagon.

Khamzat is currently 9-0 in his MMA career and seems to have Dana White on his side. The Swede has been unable to get a top fight too since he isn’t ranked but this fight would help both stars.

It will be interesting to see if Rocky is brought back into the rankings if he does accept this fight. Edwards might be on some winning streak but many fans were concerned for him. Khamzat is something else in the Octagon and many believed he would smash his rival.

The Swede beating Edwards would be something and he is fresher when it comes to action in the Octagon as well.
