Leon Edwards feels he is a bad matchup for Conor McGregor stylistically
Conor McGregor who is set to face Dustin Poirier in a trilogy fight at UFC 264, recently expressed his desire to move up to the welterweight division once again.
The Irishman has fought thrice before in the welterweight division, winning two and losing one. His most recent appearance as a welterweight came at UFC 246, against Donald Cerrone, last year.
McGregor won the fight via. first round knockout.
His loss in the division came on his welterweight debut. He took on the tough-as-nails Nate Diaz, losing via. submission. In the rematch, he earned a narrow majority decision win.
In the wake of his expected move, again to the welterweight division, top-ranked welterweight Leon Edwards has warned that the Irishman would struggle if he faced someone like him.
In an exclusive interview with talkSPORT.com, Edwards said:
“Yeah, I’d be too big for him. I’m too well-rounded and too big for him. I don’t think that would be a good matchup for him.” [via talkSPORT.com]
Edwards welcomes the returning Nate Diaz in the tri-main event of UFC 263. This will be the first time a non-title bout will be taking place for 5 rounds.
Diaz, hasn’t fought since his loss against Jorge Masvidal in the BMF title match at UFC 244. He was supposed to fight Edwards on the 15th of May, earlier this month, but a minor injury resulted in the fight being postponed.
Edwards, on the other hand, is coming off a No Contest against Belal Muhammad, earlier this year in March. He is on a massive 8-fight win streak, and is the overwhelming favourite going into this fight.
