Luis Pena was recently arrested and charged with domestic violence
It has just been reported that UFC have released their fighter Luis Pena who was recently charged with domestic violence and misdemeanor. It has been revealed that the decision has been made in the light of serious allegations made against him.
A statement by UFC noted (h/t ESPN):
“At this time, UFC believes Mr. Pena needs to deal with the health and legal issues in front of him, and consequently has informed Mr. Pena’s management that his promotional agreement has been terminated.”
It is revealed that Pena has had a history with mental issues and substance use in the past as well. Moreover, the UFC have tried to get him professional help on multiple occasions. Although, the decision made by UFC is not wrong by any means but it also has shown the double standards of the company.
Recently, Jon Jones was also arrested with similar charges and this was fourth time since 2012. UFC have still failed to take action against Jones and the reasons are only business centric. Pena who doesn’t have that big of a name in UFC has been released after his second arrest.
Why was Luis Pena arrested?
Pena was arrested on this past Saturday after a physical altercation with his girlfriend. He allegedly struck his girlfriend multiple times on the face. It has been reported that he also hit another woman who was trying to ease up the situation. He was arrested and taken to the Broward County Jail.
This was his second arrest this year, as the fighter was earlier arrested back in June of this year. Pena was released on Monday after the $6000 bond requirement was met but the case is still ongoing.
