Mackenzie Dern isn’t in the title scene now but gave her prediction for Zhang Weili vs Rose Namajunas
Zhang Weili vs Rose Namajunas has all the ingredients to be a great title bout. Weili is the current UFC Strawweight champion and this is going to be a big challenge for her.
Namajunas is a former champion and is in great shape, and the pair are expected to meet soon. Weili defeated Joanna Jedrzejczyk in a cracker of a fight which also saw both women pick up a lot of injuries.
Mackenzie Dern, who was in action at UFC 256 and picked up a great win, also provided her prediction for this huge fight.
Dern was speaking to Helen Yee and backed Namajunas to get the win:
“I think this is going to be a great fight, it is one of the fights I am most excited to see.
“I think Rose is going to be very dangerous for Zhang Weili because I have seen her ground [game], seen her submissions.
“But, I haven’t really seen Zhang Weili on the ground so for me Rose will be able to take it. I have seen her hanging with Joanna, I think she can hang in with Zhang Weili.
“And I think she has the ground, at least I have seen, but I know she can be champion if she trains her ground and is going to be champion for a good amount of time.”
Title shot for Dern?
The Brazilian showed off how tough she is as she fought on despite breaking her nose. Her coach also lied a bit in between the round by saying that she didn’t break the nose and it was a bit of a cut.
Nevertheless, this was Dern’s third straight win in the UFC and she is firmly in the title scene. Another win could see her get a title shot in the future and it will be interesting to see who she faces next.
Namajunas vs Weili will be one of the best fights of the year, and it is going to be a real test of the champion’s fortitude going against Thug Rose.
