Marcus Rashford had been fighting for the free school meals programme but the UK MPs voted against extending the move which got Marc Goddard upset
UFC referee Marc Goddard decided to hit out at UK MPs over their decision to not extend a free school meals programme.
The UK, like most countries around the world, has been hit hard by the coronavirus pandemic. However, footballer Marcus Rashford worked extremely hard to ensure that low-income families would be provided free school meals during the lockdown.
The Manchester United forward wanted the Government to extend this programme until Easter 2021. However, the idea was shot down by the MPs 261 to 322.
This caught the ire of Rashford who hit out at the members of parliament and promised to keep fighting for those in need.
The programme was to feed 1.5m children and provide them with food vouchers during the holidays. Goddard, who is never afraid to share his views, took offence at this decision and questioned the Government:
“2020 in a 1st World Country, how can “voting” on feeding our nations children even be a thing?
“How can a group of elected people on £80K+ a year PLUS expenses (let’s not get started there) stand there & say no? I hope you choke on your subsidised foie gras you shower of rats.”
The UFC referee also hit out at those who voted against the proposal and couldn’t believe that people didn’t want to help those in need:
While Rashford was awarded an MBE for his work to get the scheme started earlier in the year, this would come as a huge blow to the England international.
Members of the current Government had questioned the decision to continue this scheme, but Rashford was adamant that something needed to be done to help people out.
There have been a lot of issues that UFC stars have spoken out about in recent weeks. The violence in Nigeria has also caught the attention of the globe with Kamaru Usman leading the charge and asking for change.
