Chris Weidman defeated Omari Akhmedov but Marvin Vettori wasn’t impressed
Marvin Vettori called out former UFC Middleweight champion Chris Weidman for a clash.
Weidman made his return to the Middleweight division at UFC Fight Night: Lewis vs Oleinik, and got the win.
The 36-year-old Weidman famously defeated Anderson Silva to win the Middleweight title. However, things didn’t go well for him since picking up the gold.
He had three title defences before losing it to Luke Rockhold at UFC 194. Weidman then lost four out of his next five fights and even tried to get a win in the Light Heavyweight division, but he lost that debut fight to Dominick Reyes.
This win was a great moment for Weidman but Vettori wasn’t all that impressed. The Italian Dream, as he is called, claimed Weidman looked horrible and he would easily defeat the former champion:
Vettori further added that Weidman would be gassed by the second round and wanted the UFC to book it as soon as possible:
The Italian is currently 15-4-1 in his MMA career. However, Vettori is on a three-fight win streak and he lost a close fight to Israel Adesanya a few years back.
While the 26-year-old is one of the rising stars in the UFC, he had earlier claimed that fighters are avoiding him.
Vettori revealed that he was to fight a top 10 opponent and had accepted it on short notice. However, that was cancelled just a few minutes later:
Vettori has looked impressive for a while and it will be interesting to see if this clash is set up. It would provide Vettori with a chance to get into the race for the title if he was to defeat Weidman.
