Beneil Dariush put the lightweight division on high alert after his victory at UFC 262
Dariush was all over Tony Ferguson in the co-main event of UFC 262. The Iranian thoroughly dominated the seasoned ‘El Cucuy’, cruising to a commanding unanimous decision victory.
Ferguson was hegemonized on the ground, as he had no clue to Dariush’s ground game.
The fight was strikingly similar to Ferguson vs Charles Oliveira at UFC 256, where Ferguson had received a pretty similar treatment from the Brazilian.
Dariush emerged as the clear winner in each of the three rounds, as the judges’ scorecard read 30-27, 30-27, 30-27.
With that win, Dariush extended his unbeaten win streak to a stunning 7 and he will probably move closer to the top 5 of the lightweight rankings.
On seeing the Iranian’s dominance, UFC Middleweight Marvin Vettori, made a big claim on Twitter. He wrote : “Dariush is the best lightweight in the world.”
Dariush’s domination was also analogous to Vettori’s win against Kevin Holland at UFC on ABC 2, where the Italian executed a staggering 11 takedowns against the clueless Holland.
Marvin Vettori is set to headline the next UFC event
Marvin Vettori is hardly a month away from his title shot against Israel Adesanya. The pair are set to run it back after almost three years, when Adesanya won by the skin of his teeth.
Vettori, the number 3 ranked middleweight is one tough man. He has never been finished in the 22 fights he has fought in his career. Added to that, he has 17 wins and just 4 losses to his name.
The grapple-heavy Italian does have a real chance if he executes his ground game to perfection, come the 12th of June.
