Marvin Vettori wants Robert Whittaker to stop playing games, and get a fight done on his preferred UFC Paris card
Marvin Vettori is dying to get back in the octagon. Following a catchweight victory against former title contender Paulo Costa, Vettori had been booked for a fight against Robert Whittaker, but he pulled out of it due to an undisclosed injury.
The UFC have elaborate plans for Europe, and one amongst that is a fight card in Paris on September 3rd. “I hear there is a Europe card Sept. 3 or something like that, and it would be sick to fight him in Europe,” Whittaker said in a social media post earlier this month. “So that’s what I’m trying to get put on. I’ve been meaning to go to Europe for a long time, and if that’s my ticket there then let’s go.”
He most recently posted tweet with the caption ‘Paris’ suggesting that he has made up his mind to return inside the octagon.
Tired of all the waiting around and speculation, Vettori directly called out Whittaker by contemptuously asking him to step up and fight him. He wrote,
‘Rob are we gonna do this yeah?
No bullshit, that’s the date you wanted @robwhittakermma’
Besides this, the UFC are also targeting a fight between fellow Kiwi, Tai Tuivasa and hometown fighter Ciryl Gane for the September 3rd card.
Marvin Vettori was signed into the UFC as a former Venator FC welterweight champion, having competed in the promotion for only a year. He would enter the UFC with a record of 10-2 as a professional mixed martial artist.
He made his debut against Alberto Uda at UFC 202, in a card that was headlined by the rematch between Conor Mcgregor and Nate Diaz. He won the fight via submission due to a guillotine choke in the first round. Vettori absolutely dominated Uda in a fight that only lasted one round.
He would win, lose and draw a couple of matches, including a loss against current middleweight champion Israel Adesanya at UFC on Fox: Poirier vs. Gaethje, when the pair met for the first time. Since that fight he went on an impressive five-fight win streak, eventually reclaiming his shot at the belt against Israel Adesanya. His momentum would be put on hold by Izzy again when he beat him by unanimous decision in their rematch. His current record in the UFC stands at 8 wins, 3 losses and one draw.
