Maurice Greene will not back down after his recent release from the UFC
34-year old Greene was shown the door after his loss against Marcos Rogerio de Lima at UFC Vegas 26. The American suffered the seventh loss of his career and his fourth in the UFC, after having fought only 7 times for the promotion.
Greene made his entry into the UFC through The Ultimate Fighter Season 28. He bowed out in the semi-finals of the Heavyweight bracket.
‘The Crochet Boss’ made his UFC debut against Jeff Hughes on the 9th of March in 2019. He won the fight via. split decision. He followed it up with another victory against Junior Albini in June 2019.
However, things started to go downhill as he lost the next four of his five fights. And hence, the UFC decided to release Greene.
However, Greene remained optimistic as he posted a long message on Instagram, saying that he was excited for the next chapter in his life, while also claiming that the “game was unforgiving”.
Greene wrote:
“When one door closes another one opens. I have had ups and downs with the #ufc and today that relationship comes to an end. Look at the bright side I’m still in the best shape of my life. I’m physically and mentally #stronger than ever and the next chapter I am excited for. This game is unforgiving but hey I’m down for the challenge of making my name with a new promotion or the road back. The best is yet to come #TheCrochetBoss.”
Greene crochets in his free time. He has been crocheting since the year 2008, way before he even took up fighting – made his MMA debut in 2012.
The 6 foot 7 star predominantly makes stocking caps, which is sold on his website www.thecrochetbossshop.com.
Since his hands weave magic off the ring too, through crochets, he is called the ‘Crochet Boss’.
We hope Greene finds another shelter soon and continues his exploits.
