Max Holloway always seems ready for a fight and wanted to be the back-up for Conor McGregor vs Dustin Poirier
Max Holloway is a fighter. There is no doubting that, especially after his win over Calvin Kattar.
The former UFC Featherweight champion showed off his boxing credentials and even got into a bit of a spat with former rival Conor McGregor over who the best boxer in the UFC was.
Nevertheless, Holloway is in title contention now and he sat down with Farah Hannoun of MMA Junkie and spoke in detail on several topics.
While he brought up rematches against McGregor and also how Dustin Poirier got the better of the Irishman, it seems that Holloway was keen to get on in the UFC 257 card.
Holloway crashed a McGregor interview while skating and was asked if he really wanted to serve as a backup to the Poirier vs McGregor fight.
Dana White trashed all that talk but Holloway was on Fight Island prior to UFC 257 and claimed he was more than ready to step up if something happened:
“We was there. I was there. We was there, we were chilling.
“We was ready, we was ready on all cylinder. How much time Dana White said something and went back on it, come on. Don’t listen to the guy.”
While McGregor vs Poirier 3 seems certain to happen, Holloway put his name into the books with his win over Kattar.
The American will go down as one of the greatest UFC Featherweights of all-time. He could also reclaim his title in his next fight.
Holloway should fight the winner of Alexander Volkanovski vs Brian Ortega. Volkanovski is the current champion but his second win over Holloway was mired in controversy.
Many believed that the fight was a draw or that Holloway won. However, the judges scored the fight in Volkanovski’s favour.
It will be interesting to see how the Australian does against Ortega. Holloway is waiting for this fight to get over and then will be keen on reclaiming his gold.
