Max Holloway has been forced to withdraw from his trilogy fight against Alexander Volkanovski on the 5th of March, 2022
Just days after the trilogy fight between Alexander Volkanovski and Max Holloway was booked, ‘Blessed’ has been forced to withdraw from the bout. The pair were set to headline UFC 272 on the 5th of March, 2022 in Las Vegas.
‘Re-aggravating a previous injury’ seems to be the reason behind the withdrawal. Brett Okamoto was the first to break the news after learning the same from multiple sources.
He tweeted:
“Max Holloway (@BlessedMMA) has been forced to withdraw from Alex Volkanovski (@alexvolkanovski) trilogy after re-aggravating a previous injury. Happened just days after he accepted.”
Holloway was coming off a war against Yair Rodriguez. The two faced off on the 13th of November, 2021 in what was considered to be one of the greatest featherweight fights of all time. Holloway won via. unanimous decision.
The Hawaiian did take a bad beating in that fight.
‘The Korean Zombie’ and Alexander Volkanovski seemingly agree to fight
It looks like ‘The Korean Zombie’ Chan Sung Jung will be taking on Alexander Volkanovski on the 5th of March, 2021 at UFC 272. Following Holloway’s withdrawal, a number of names expressed their desire to fight Volkanovski – retired UFC fighter Henry Cejudo was the pick of the lot.
Volkanovski himself called out ‘TKZ’ on Twitter. He wrote: “@KoreanZombieMMA Let’s do this!! #UFC272.”
A while later, Chan Sung Jung replied with a thumbs-up emoji, seemingly replacing Holloway in the process.
‘TKZ’ is coming off a unanimous decision win over Dan Ige.
