Max Holloway was in smashing form as he not only broke a GSP UFC record but many more
The first UFC main event of 2021 certainly lived up to expectations but Max Holloway was the star in it.
He dominated Calvin Kattar over the five rounds, and was on a different level on the night. Further, the dominating win also set him up for a rematch against Alexander Volkanovski for the UFC Featherweight title.
That also depends on Volkanovski defeating Brian Ortega and keeping the gold. Nevertheless, Holloway certainly brought his A-game and even got Conor McGregor talking.
Holloway was trash talking during the clash and even claimed he was the best boxer in the UFC.
McGregor took exception to that but the former champion certainly racked up a few UFC records in this outing.
He broke one held by the legendary Georges St-Pierre too in terms of total strikes landed in the UFC.
Holloway now has 2,805 while GSP is on 2,591. The former champion wasn’t done with this one record though as he racked up several throughout the clash.
The former champion also broke other records in this outing. He broke the record for most significant strikes landed, significant strikes attempted, distance strikes landed and significant head strikes landed.
The records kept coming for Holloway as he broke four more and this might have been his best performance in years.
Volkanovski wasn’t all that impressed though as he brought up the numbers from their previous fights.
The Australian currently holds the Featherweight title and he faces Brian Ortega next. However, Holloway should be getting another title shot, and if he fights in this form, there is no doubt the UFC will have a new Featherweight champion.
