Khabib Nurmagomedov saw one record of his break in the UFC thanks to the impressive Merab Dvalishvili

2020 has been a banner year for some UFC stars such as Kevin Holland and Khamzat Chimaev.

The pair were unbeaten in the year and put on some of the best displays in the year too. Chimaev came as an unknown into the UFC while Holland fought five times and won it all.

There were others who were great too with Deiveson Figueiredo defending his title twice and Brandon Moreno showing that he can take The God of War to his limits.

One star who isn’t being talked about enough, despite going 3-0 in 2020, is Merab Dvalishvili. The Georgian is on a five-fight win streak and had some impressive wins in all this.

Dvalishvili now holds and MMA record of 12 wins and four losses and looks impressive to continue his winning streak for now.

However, he also had something to celebrate in 2020 by breaking a Khabib Nurmagomedov record.

Khabib is one of the greatest MMA athletes of all time and retired from the sport after defeating Justin Gaethje.

Dvalishvili, for his part, recorded the most takedowns in a calendar year with 27 to his name. That is a new UFC record with Khabib racking up 23 in 2013.

Dvalishvili beats a few big names

Getting 27 takedowns in three fights comes to nine per fight on average. That is an impressive stat given that all of his fights were three rounds in 2020 and he recorded three takedowns per round on average.

Dvalishvili beat some other big names on the list such as Rashad Evans and Colby Covington too. The 29-year-old seems to be enjoying his time in the UFC and it will be interesting to see who his next rival is.
