Justin Gaethje is to face Khabib Nurmagomedov for the undisputed UFC Lightweight title
UFC legend and Hall of Famer Michael Bisping spoke with Helen Yee regarding one huge fight.
Khabib Nurmagomedov will go against Justin Gaethje for the undisputed Lightweight title. Gaethje beat Tony Ferguson to lift the interim belt and the Lightweight champion, Khabib, will be his next target.
Khabib is undefeated in his MMA career and was to fight Ferguson. However, the coronavirus pandemic laid waste to those plans. Gaethje was impressive in his win over Ferguson and dominated his more experienced rival.
Fighting Khabib will be a different test, but Bisping believes Gaethje could spring a win. Yee asked the UFC legend for his thoughts on the fight, and Bisping gave Gaethje a fighting chance:
“Justin has a really good chance of beating Khabib. I really do because as we know or for those that don’t know Justin’s a tremendous wrestler.
“I think he was a state champion, he’s a very high level wrestler but we don’t often see that in MMA. “In fact, I don’t know if he has ever gone for a takedown in the UFC. He uses his wrestling in a defensive manner to stop takedowns, get in opponents’ faces.”
Bisping also spoke about how Gaethje could stop the takedowns from the champion and claimed this would be a great fight.
Unbeatable Gaethje
Bisping further highlighted the quality of Gaethje after the win over Ferguson. The UFC legend claimed no one could have defeated Gaethje on the night and this was a fantastic showing.
Bisping also praised Ferguson for standing so long despite taking some nasty blows. The Hall of Famer also felt a little sad for Ferguson given that El Cucuy was unable to win the undisputed Lightweight title in his UFC career.
Khabib vs Gaethje could be one of the fights of the year, and it will be interesting to see how things go with this in the coming months.
