Michael Bisping feels, the old motivated and hungry Conor McGregor was a different beast
McGregor gained immense fame and money when he beat Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205. The Irishman became the double champ and took the world by storm.
Since money started creeping in, McGregor became inactive from the sport for an extended period of time.
Just 14 days after his victory against Alvarez, McGregor was stripped of his featherweight belt, due to inactivity in the division. And 18 months later was stripped off his lightweight belt as well.
Since the Alvarez fight, McGregor has fought just thrice. And he has lost two and won just one.
Now, he is set to take on Dustin Poirier on the 10th of July in a trilogy fight, which would be his fourth fight since UFC 205.
UFC Hall of Famer and commentator Michael Bisping spoke to talkSPORT in an interview. ‘The Count’ exclaimed that the ‘old’ Conor McGregor doesn’t exist anymore, drawing comparisons with the older version of himself.
Bisping said:
“The Conor McGregor of old is just like the me of old. It doesn’t exist anymore. I’m a nice guy, I’m a pussy cat, but I used to be a bit of a nightmare. With Conor McGregor, it’s the same thing. The man’s loaded. He’s pulling up on $100million yachts and got million-dollar watches. He gets chauffeured in Rolls Royces.” [via talkSPORT.com]
Michael Bisping believes the winner of the trilogy fight should face Charles Oliveira
The winner of the trilogy fight between McGregor and Poirier on the 10th of July, is expected to face the newly-crowned lightweight champion Charles Oliveira.
Bisping agreed with the fact, saying that McGregor and Poirier deserved every bit of a title shot since they are “the most high profile” in the lightweight division.
‘The Count’ told talkSPORT:
“Whoever wins that fight should certainly go on to fight for the belt. They are the most high profile in that division and are ranked high enough – Dustin was an interim champion and Conor is a former champion.” [via talkSPORT.com]
