UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping had some harsh words to say about John Kavanagh, the coach of Conor McGregor
Conor McGregor suffered an unlikely injury at the end of the first round during his fight against Dustin Poirier. As a result, the Irishman had to take an L due to a TKO by means of a doctor stoppage.
After having started out the fight as the aggressor, McGregor began struggling once the fight went to the ground in the second half of the first round. He was dominated by a flurry of ground strikes and elbows from Poirier.
Two of the three judges had awarded Poirier a 10-8 for his first round.
Following the fight, the coach of Conor McGregor, John Kavanagh broke down the fight in an interview with Laura Sanko. He made quite an outrageous claim that McGregor would have sparked Poirier in the coming rounds, had he not been injured.
UFC Hall of Famer, Michael Bisping was left completely unimpressed with Kavanagh’s comments. At the UFC 264 review show on BT Sport, Bisping stated that McGregor should even consider firing Kavanagh for making such claims.
Bisping was quoted as saying:
“Coach Kavanagh said, ‘Oh! I saw nothing that concerned me. I knew that in the second round we will get the knockout. Nothing I’ve seen there concerned me at all.’ If that’s true John Kavanagh, Conor should fire you immediately, because that was very concerning, you were on your back and you were getting dominated. And, it was a 10-8 round, that’s concerning. You don’t want to get your ass kicked, simple as that and that’s what was happening.”

Bisping then broke down what would have happened if the fight had gone to the second round.
‘The Count’ justified his claim by stating that McGregor struggled in the round he is known for (1st round) and hence would have had no chance in the later rounds.
Bisping said:
“The leg break was unfortunate. But, as I say, it gives McGregor an excuse or a reason, why the fight ended. If that didn’t happen, I mean, come on, the odds of him turning it around and finishing Dustin in the second round when round one is supposed to be Conor’s best round…it wasn’t good. It wasn’t a good performance.”
