A lightweight bout between Michael Chandler and Tony Ferguson is in the works
It looks like the UFC is working to set up a fight between lightweights, Michael Chandler and Tony Ferguson.
In a recent Fan Q&A session hosted by ESPN’s Laura Sanko, UFC President Dana White broke the news of the same.
While the bossman sounded frustrated about the reporters picking up half-baked news, he did sound like the fight was close to being made official.
Here is what he had to say:
“We’re looking at him (Ferguson) vs Chandler. So there you go. Don’t lie and say it is done and then managers are gonna start calling and crying and…”
Chandler, is coming off an absolute barn burner against Justin Gaethje at UFC 268. Despite going down via. unanimous decision, he showed the heart of a warrior that night.
He is currently in a two-fight skid.
Tony Ferguson is in a rut now
Ferguson is currently in the worst form of his life. The former interim lightweight champion hasn’t won any of his last three fights and is coming off a one-sided unanimous decision loss against Beneil Dariush at UFC 262.
Currently ranked number 7 in the lightweight division, ‘El Cucuy’ will be looking forward to getting out of the rut he is in currently. He will soon turn 38, come the 12th of February.
Given the form Ferguson is currently in, it might be risky to throw him inside the Octagon with someone as explosive as Chandler. However, one can never jump to conclusions when it comes to the man from Oxnard.
