Michael Chandler issued a warning to Tony Ferguson after the latter’s callout
Tony Ferguson is looking to pick a fight with Michael Chandler and ‘Iron’ Mike has a feeling that it wouldn’t end well for ‘El Cucuy.’
In a recent fan Q&A on Twitter, Chandler was asked if he would wrestle or strike in a fight against McGregor. When Chandler replied that he would strike, Ferguson crashed in.
‘El Cucuy’ stated that Chandler was trying to ‘delay that whoopin’ he owed.
His Tweet read:
“There’s My Bitch!!! @MikeChandlerMMA The Brass @danawhite@ufc Relayed Your Message Saying You Would Be Ready For Me April/June. Looks Like Your Trying To Delay That Ass-Whoopin’ I Owe Ya For Cutting In Line Kid- It’s Wrestling Season MF, Man Up- Champ.”
Talks of Chandler making his debut against Ferguson were rife during late 2020. However, it fell through.
A confident Chandler replied that he would beat Ferguson from ‘bell to bell’ whilst also asking him to pray for a merciful referee:
“Oh Tony. There’s only a handful of guys in this game I truly respect…you’re one of them. Only because of your tenure, not your stature or your current presence in the division. I’ll beat you from bell to bell. Pray for a merciful ref. We shall see if this fight happens.”
Michael Chandler lost his last two fights. However, he did go out on his shield in both contests. He came inches close to winning the lightweight title against Charles Oliveira at UFC 262. In the next fight, against Justin Gaethje at UFC 268, Chandler put on one of the performances of the year (so did Gaethje).
The same thing cannot be said of Tony Ferguson. ‘El Cucuy’ was beaten fair and square in his last three fights – Justin Gaethje, Charles Oliveira and Beneil Dariush.
A fight between the two does make sense.
