Michael Chiesa had a hilarious face-off with Khamzat Chimaev in Abu Dhabi

Khamzat Chimaev might not be fighting in Abu Dhabi but he has garnered a lot of attention over the past few days.

There was a face-off with fellow Welterweight Michael Chiesa in the hotel. However, that was made just in jest. Chimaev then wrestled Daniel Cormier in the lobby too and that got a lot of people talking.

The Schmo was speaking to Chiesa about all this and the UFC star and confirmed it was Cormier that got everyone talking:

“He is a super nice guy and kinda I set up the face-off. He was sitting in his table and we talked to him and DC comes talking to him and says, ‘Hey Khamzat, this is your next fight’.”

However, Chiesa confirmed that he was open to facing Chimaev but only if the Swede was ranked.

Chiesa also spoke about the wrestling match between DC and Chimaev and claimed that Cormier took it easy on his friend:

“I think it was pretty even. But DC is an Olympian, this is the former team captain, you know. So, I think if DC wanted to turn it on he could plus he is a double champion.

“He might have a couple of lbs on Khamzat or kilograms as people would say.”

Fighting for a shot at gold

Currently, Khamzat is 9-0 in his MMA career and is searching for his next UFC fight. He has won all three of them in impressive fashion.

However, Chiesa was open to facing Chimaev in the future and added that they would meet for a No.1 contender’s spot:

“I think it will be a No.1 contender fight down the road. Style makes fights and that is a fight that is in no way not exciting.

“He is going to fight Magny and I think they are working on something for me in January and then we will see down the line.”

Chiesa didn’t reveal who his next opponent was going to be but he claimed it would be something special if the UFC set it up.

The 32-year-old is on a three-fight win streak and last defeated Rafael dos Anjos. Chiesa is 17-4 in his MMA career and is currently ranked #8 in the Welterweight division.
