Michel Pereira details an incident of squabble with the heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou
MMA community is well averse to the eccentricity of Michel Pereira, and reckon him as a wild man. Fresh off his UFC Vegas 55 victory, Pereira is making media appearances and pushing for a fight against either Nate Diaz or Jorge Masvidal.
Michel Pereira entertained everyone with his excellent showing against Santiago Ponzinibbio at UFC Vegas 55 in what was an absolute ‘barn-burner’. Famous for his eccentric ways, and unconventional fighting style, Pereira was on top of the world following this victory against an up and comer in the division. With this win, he moves his unbeaten streak to five.
Speaking to the media, he detailed an incident at UFC 270 that involved the heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou, after his victory against Andre Fialho at UFC 270. ‘Demolidor’ wanted to celebrate the night with his teammates in typical Brazilian fashion of a wild night. However, when his post-fight party spilt out into the hotel hallway, it aggravated a fellow UFC 270 competitor. Francis Ngannou, fresh off his title defense and trashed knee, was irritated by the loud group.
“We celebrated my victory at the hotel, had fun,” Pereira began telling Canal Encarada (via Ngannou_MMA) And we are such guys – we move only with music, we constantly light up, even when we cut weight. I always rock, and my guys are the same. Constantly moving noisily, having parties. Guerra was drinking there non-stop, everyone was joking, bantering. And our room was next door to Ngannou.
And since the room was small, and there were a lot of people, someone suggested, ‘Let’s sit in the hallway?’ And we sat down in the corridor, and immediately came out to us – who would you think? Ngannou. The guys look at each other like that, ‘Wow, Ngannou is coming.’
He comes up and says, ‘Hey, do you think it’s real to fall asleep when there’s such a noise? How do I sleep, huh?’ Honestly, at that moment I felt uncomfortable. I was after a hard fight, my nose was broken, my legs were beaten off. If Ngannou started a fight, what would I do to him? The team is already all drunk, they wouldn’t have helped me in any way.”
He was left with no option but to confront the Heavyweight champion, so Pereira and company agreed to turn down the music and silence the party. Looking back on it, however, the Brazilian regrets his decision and is unhappy with “The Predator.”
“Honestly, Ngannou made me angry. Why couldn’t he address us politely? He was lucky that I was all beaten up and couldn’t do anything, especially for a guy of this size. I don’t even want to think about it. I know he’s a modest, nice guy, but why couldn’t he tell us politely, ‘Hey, guys, could you …’ I didn’t like the way he spoke to us. You need to be polite to people. If he had addressed us politely, we would have retained respect for him forever. And so – we just fell silent. ‘What the f—k?! Do you think you can fall asleep with such noise?’ Bro, we were just drinking … You have to be polite to people. I could have answered him too, ‘Bro, go f—k. Who are you anyway?’”
Riding on this elated feeling of perfect contentment, Pereira used the platform during a post-fight media interview to callout several UFC superstars, including Nate Diaz and Jorge Masvidal. To everyone’s bewilderment, Pereira dished out that one of UFC’s biggest superstars, and the BMF champion Jorge Masvidal slid into his wife’s DM. He stated that he wants to get things straight with the Miami native, and settle things inside the octagon.
“And also, Jorge Masvidal because I have a little bit of a problem with him, and I want to settle it.”
“So he sent an emoji to my wife – the emoji with the two hands together like (praying),” Pereira explained. “He sent it to my wife and didn’t send it to me. And you know, I never actually crossed paths with him, never had the chance to ask him. So I figured, you know, I really want to understand, but might as well understand inside the octagon. So we’ll just settle it over there.”
Jorge Masvidal reacted to the allegation and deemed it as superficial and fake. He shared a screenshot of the original conversation which clearly shows that he was only responding to Pereira’s wife’s message.
He claimed that fighters would go to any extent to have a crack at the ‘BMF’ champion, and deemed Pereira’s action as distasteful and built around a fake narrative.
‘How crazy a world and how far has society fallen that this idiot @UfcPereira would use his wife to hopefully 1 day get a paycheck and create a fake narrative to try and get a fight with me when clearly he sees she slid in my dm? Wishing you guys the best #marriagecounselor’
