Mike Perry reminds Khamzat Chimaev of incredibly similar start to MMA career

Khamzat Chimaev won his ninth MMA fight in a row but Mike Perry wasn’t all that impressed with the record

UFC star Mike Perry is the latest to speak up about Khamzat Chimaev and the Swede’s MMA record.

The 26-year-old picked up another impressive win in the latest UFC event. Chimaev defeated Gerald Meerschaert in just 17 seconds and picked up another finish.

Every professional fight of Chimaev’s career has ended in a finish with either knockouts or submissions.

While many in the UFC have been impressed by Chimaev’s UFC career so, there are an equal number who aren’t.

Perry seems to be one of them and he doesn’t seem to believe that Chimaev is anything special. While the Swede has nine finishes in his first nine fights, Perry was quick to share that he too had a similar record at the start of his career.

Platinum, as Perry is called, was indeed 9-0 at the start of his career and all his wins were either knockouts or finishes.

He was quick to share this stat with Chimaev, though he didn’t post anything else after that.

A warning for the Swede?

Chimaev seems to the golden goose for the UFC at the moment. Dana White has already labelled him as special while he has a big fight ahead of him next.

The Swede faces Demian Maia after this and that should be another great fight. However, Perry could be sharing a word of warning for Chimaev too.

Platinum was 9-0 but MMA is a brutal sport where one mistake can lead to a loss. Perry is now 14-6 in his MMA career and recently defeated Mickey Gall at UFC: Hooker vs Poirier.

However, he has had his fair share of ups and downs, and could be hinting at something similar for Chimaev.

There are only a handful of stars that hold undefeated records in the UFC after crossing 10 wins, and it will be interesting to see how long Chimaev continues his winning streak.
