Khamzat Chimaev has big aspirations for 2021 as he posed with the UFC title
UFC welterweight and middleweight fighter Khamzat Chimaev is one of the hottest MMA prospects going into 2021. Boasting a professional MMA record on 9-0-0, Chimaev has now set his sight on the UFC title.
He made his mark in UFC when he won two fights within a space of 10 days. Chimaev beat John Phillips via submission in round 1 on 16th July 2020, then won by TKO against Rhys McKee 10 days later.
His most recent win was against Gerald Meerschaert on 19th November 2020 by way of knockout. This meant that all 9 of his professional fights are yet to last the distance; never once calling the judge’s scorecard into play.
He has already called out Kamaru Usman and Israel Adesanya, and has earned praise from Dana White himself. White earlier said about Chimaev:
“The guy is special. I have been in this game my whole life and I’ve never seen anything like him. He’s special. He’s different.”
And now, Borz has posted a photo of himself with the UFC title on Twitter which MMA fans seem to mind.
Chimaev is scheduled to take on Leon Edwards in the main event of UFC Fight Night 185 on January 20, 2021. The fight was scheduled for Fight Night 183 but Edwards tested positive for Covid-19, hence postponing the fight.
Fans believe the #15 ranked welterweight is thinking too far ahead for his own good. After winning just 3 UFC fights, albeit very impressively, some fans think Chimaev is all hype and not good enough to actually win a title yet.
With champions like Adesanya and Usman in the middleweight and welterweight divisions respectively, it definitely won’t be an easy road for Chimaev to win the belt.
