Sergio Pettis beat Juan Archuleta to win the Bellator Bantamweight title
Pettis out-struck bantamweight champion Archuleta (50-45, 49-46, 49-46) to win via. unanimous decision.
Pettis was largely untroubled for the majority of the fight, as the seasoned Archuleta failed in his first title defense. He had won the bantamweight title only last year against Patchy Mix at Bellator 246.
Pettis, on the other hand, made a switch from the UFC to Bellator only last year. He made his Bellator debut against Alfred Khashakyan at Bellator 238. He quickly rose through the ranks, beating Ricky Bandejas at Bellator 242.
After two back-to-back wins, Pettis found himself fighting for the title against Archuleta. And he grabbed the opportunity with both hands, earning praises from all around the world.
Several MMA stars congratulated Pettis on winning the Bellator Bantamweight title, and his brother Anthony whos was by his corner was one of the happiest men on the planet.
Here are a few reactions to Pettis being crowned the bantamweight champion:
Anthony Pettis has had a rough start to his PFL career
The Pettis brothers left the UFC in the recent past, and joined different promotions. While Sergio joined the Bellator, Anthony went to the Professional Fighters League.
But, Anthony’s debut didn’t go as planned as he succumbed to a unanimous decision loss on his PFL debut.
‘Showtime’ faced Clay Collard at PFL 1 (2021), a former UFC fighter himself, was thoroughly outboxed throughout the fight, as Collard brought his boxing skills to the fore.
Not a debut, Showtime would have wanted. But he still has a long way to go.
