Nate Diaz calls out Dustin Poirier and confirms his weight class
UFC fighter Nate Diaz called out Dustin Poirier on Twitter, saying that the Diamond’s video addressed to him contained ‘fighting words’.
Poirier is in the lightweight division and is on the back of a headline-grabbing UFC 257 victory against Conor McGregor.
The Diamond has since been the centre of attention, and Nate Diaz is the latest in a long line of UFC fighters who want to have a go at Poirier.
Diaz’s last fight came in the welterweight division. He was beaten by Jorge Masvidal at UFC 244 for the BMF belt. And since then, he has been out of action.
But, he wrote in his tweet that he didn’t care about the weight class if he wanted to face Poirier. Diaz has shuffled between the welterweight and lightweight divisions for the majority of the career.
This week on Twitter, he again confirmed that he would be fighting in the welterweight division. This is despite him calling out Poirier in his very next tweet.
He wrote, “NDA soldier 170 lbs Come get you some of the real”.
The two were primed to fight each other more than 2 years ago. It was announced that Poirier and Nate Diaz would fight each other in a lightweight bout at UFC 230.
The co-headliner for the 3rd November PPV was called off after The Diamond pulled out due to an injury.
However, in an earlier meeting it was Diaz who pulled out regarding a drugs related issue and Poirier hit out at his rival.
This fight does not seem like it can happen anytime soon. Poirier is on the back of a career-defining win and would be looking to face someone for the lightweight belt next.
Diaz, on the other hand, could complete a trilogy of fights against McGregor, who would be looking to bounce back after his UFC 257 loss.
