Nate Diaz is down for a fight against Conor McGregor but not until the Irishman gets back into the Octagon and proves himself
Nate Diaz recently had his contract extended by the UFC. The ‘Stockton Slugger’s future looked in doubt when he had just one fight left in his contract. However, it didn’t take the promotion long to extend the veteran’s stay.
Following Diaz’s contract extension, a couple of names, mainly old foes were thrown into the mix. Conor McGregor was the biggest name of the lot.
The pair previously met twice in 2016, with each winning once. However, it was Diaz who made headway first. He became the first man to beat McGregor in the UFC when he submitted him in the second round at UFC 196. McGregor exacted revenge at UFC 202, albeit via. a narrow majority decision.
More than five years later, both are closer to the trilogy fight than ever. In the wake of this, Diaz made it clear that he was down to a fight against McGregor but not until the Irishman who is down and out with an injury, proves himself.
Diaz tweeted:
“I’m not fighting Conor until his leg grows back and he beats some people so we know he can even fight still till then Can I get on January card @ufc Thanks.”
Nate Diaz fires shots at Dustin Poirier
Another name who is in the mix is Dustin Poirier. The two-time lightweight title challenger has been rumoured to move up to welterweight.
Poirier and Diaz have been going back and forth on Twitter of late.
In a recent Tweet, Poirier hinted at a fight against Diaz at UFC 271 since he believed that the promotion couldn’t make one happen at UFC 270.
Poirier wrote:
“Maybe UFC 271 they couldn’t make it happen on 270. I said yes.”
Diaz hit back at Poirier saying:
“The ufc don’t wanna pay for u dp sorry u suck. Loser.”
