The possibility of a Nate Diaz-Conor McGregor trilogy has been talked about for ages and ages
Conor McGregor will be looking forward to getting his hands raised come the 10th of July, when he takes on Dustin Poirier in a trilogy fight.
The winner is expected to fight the newly-crowned lightweight champ from Brazil, Charles Olveira for the title.
With the fight hardly 48 hours away, the pre-fight press conference went ahead earlier today. Although McGregor wasn’t at his trash-talking best, he tried his best to get into Poirier’s head multiple times.
Poirier, however, was a picture of calmness, even as McGregor kept hurling abuses at him.
While being questioned by the reporters, McGregor was asked if he would ever entertain a trilogy fight with his nemesis Nate Diaz.
There was no hesitation in McGregor’s reply, as he straight away replied yes to it.
Here is what ‘The Irishman’ said:
“It’s for sure gonna happen. It must happen. We’re one and one, and it must happen. It will happen. I am looking forward to the day.”
Will a loss for Conor McGregor take him straight to the Nate Diaz trilogy fight?
McGregor might possibly be in the last chance saloon. A loss here might all but throw him out of relevance from the lightweight title picture.
There have been talks of a McGregor-Diaz trilogy fight happening in case McGregor loses to Poirier. Although Diaz has aged a lot, he still has his tough-as-nails attitude intact, which he clearly exhibited at the recently concluded UFC 263.
McGregor and Diaz, last fought in August 2016 at UFC 202. McGregor exacted revenge for his UFC 196 loss via. a narrow majority decision victory.
