Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier have been going back and forth on Twitter of late
The online war between Nate Diaz and Dustin Poirier isn’t dying anytime soon. After Poirier turned his attention towards the ‘Stockton Slugger’ following his loss against Charles Oliveira at UFC 269, the pair have traded verbal bombs.
More recently, Diaz fired shots at ‘The Diamond’ before deleting the Tweet.
His Tweet read:
“Your not worthy. If u wanted to fight we would have already. Bring yourself back from the dead. You suck DP.”
It is worth noting that Poirier and Diaz were set to fight in November 2018 at UFC 230 – Poirier pulled out citing an injury, and the fight was never re-scheduled.
Will a fight between Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz come to fruition?
Following the UFC 230 fight never materializing, Poirier went his own path and achieved great success. In 2019 he beat Max Holloway to win the interim lightweight title, and went on to challenge Khabib Nurmagomedov for the undisputed title at UFC 242 later that year.
Diaz, meanwhile, beat Anthony Pettis in August 2019 and challenged Jorge Masvidal for the BMF belt which he eventually lost.
Poirier, who has just lost his second title fight, will not be challenging for the title soon. Hence, his only motive now will be to secure the bag. Diaz and McGregor are two of the biggest money fights in the UFC right now.
With his trilogy against McGregor coming to an end only in 2021, a fight against Diaz is very much possible (in 2022).
