Nate Diaz and Conor McGregor were a part of one of the greatest UFC rivalries of all time
Diaz is set to return to the Octagon this weekend, after almost 2 years. He will be taking on Leon Edwards at UFC 263 in a 5-round non-title fight.
More recently, popular ESPN journalist Stephen A. Smith caught up with the ‘Stockton Slugger‘. Smith asked if Diaz had any plans for the future, in case he wins at UFC 263.
Diaz had two names in mind- Jorge Masvidal and Conor McGregor. He claimed that he was supposed to have a rematch with Gamebred following their first meeting at UFC 244. He also didn’t overlook his most famous rival, McGregor.
Diaz told Smith:
“I was supposed to have a rematch with [Jorge] Masvidal but he went the other way so we’ll see what happens in the future with that… Conor [McGregor]…Then we’ll see… After this fight I’m sure everybody is gonna be talking a lot of s***, so whoever is talking the most s*** is probably gonna be the one with the ass whooping next.”
Diaz was beaten by Masvidal at UFC 244 via. TKO (doctor stoppage), when the pair fought for the symbolic BMF title.
As for his rivalry with McGregor, it was something that took the UFC to new levels. The pair fought twice in 2016. Diaz shocked the world when he won the first bout at UFC 196, via. submission.
And he almost defeated McGregor in the rematch, unfortunately going down via. a majority decision loss.
Dana White reveals if the winner of Nate Diaz vs Leon Edwards will fight Kamaru Usman next
UFC President Dana White opened up on the possibility of the winner of Diaz vs Edwards fighting Kamaru Usman next.
While, White did say that they will soon be fighting for the title, he explained that it was number one ranked Colby Covington who deserved the title shot first.
The boss told Submission Radio:
“Colby [Covington] is the number one contender…It’s the fight to make…Whoever wins [between Diaz and Edwards] is next after Colby.”
